Text: Psalm 23:5, Psalm 24:1-2, Phil 4:19
The characters of God cannot be exhausted. He has all things
and He created all things for His pleasure. He is God of surplus, God of one
hundred percent plus. He created everything in abundance and has them in
abundance. He is God of quality and quantity. He does not lack. He is a God of
completeness and He is unlimited in resources. Hence He is God of
superabundance. Superabundance means much more than enough.
A few examples of what God created are Air,
Water, Land, Vegetation, Sea, Sky, Moon, Sun, Mineral Resources, Animals of
different kinds, different Planets and Humans. He is still creating. He allows
multiplication through reproduction of kinds for continuity of life. He is a
bountiful benefactor to all his people. He loads us daily with benefits and
supplies all our needs. Psalm 24:1 says; “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness
thereof, the world, and they that dwell therein.” Psalm 24:2 says; “For He hath
founded it upon the seas and established it upon the floods.” God has
everything in large quantity, plenteous and even overflowing. David acknowledged
the superabundance of God when he said in Psalm 23:5 “Thou preparest
a table before me in the presence of mine enemies, thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth
over” this shows abundance. God has more than enough of what you need. David’s
cup was not only filled but it runneth over. His goodness and mercy are in
superabundance. These are always following believers. The light He gives shines
more and more to the perfect day.
His grace is unlimited. His mercy endureth forever Ps
136:1-26. He gives wisdom for the asking. He gives us peace not as the world giveth; John 14:27 but he gives us in abundance.
The peace the world gives is short-lived.
His peace is in superabundance and is everlasting.
Jesus said in John 6:35; “I am the bread of life, he that
cometh to me shall never hunger and he that believeth on me shall never
thirst.” He is there to sustain your spiritual life. John 6:51 says; “I am the
living bread which came down from heaven, if any man eat of this bread, he
shall live forever and the bread that I
will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the
world.” Jesus said in John 10:10b “I have come that they may have life and that
they may have it more abundantly.” You cannot offer what you don’t have. But
because God has all these in superabundance, they can be given to you and me in
abundance.
Let us consider few examples in the scriptures where God’s
superabundance was demonstrated.
The Blessing of the wine at Cana in
Galilee John 2:1-7
At the marriage at
Cana, in Galilee¸ when they ran out of wine. Jesus asked them to fill six water
pots available with water and they were filled to the brim. Jesus turned the
water into wine and every man took to his satisfaction. Indeed the governor of
the feast, excited, called the bridegroom and said unto him in John 2:10;
“Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine and when men have well
drunk, then that which is worse but thou hast kept the good wine until now.”
This shows that our God is a God of quality and quantity and of superabundance.
The wine was of good quality. If they had provided more than six water pots,
more wine would have been provided.
Blessing
and Multiplication of Loaves of Bread and Fish Mark 6:35- 44
Jesus had compassion on the large crowd that had been
following Him and his disciples. Jesus insisted they must be fed. But there
were only five loaves of bread and two fish. His disciples said to Him in Mark
6:37; “That would take eight months of a man’s wages! Are we to go and spend
that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” but Jesus answered; “you give
them something to eat.” Jesus took the five loaves of bread and the two fish
and looked up into the heaven, He gave thanks and broke the loaves. His
disciples served the five thousand men. They all ate with satisfaction and the
disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish as the
left over. This could only be the handiwork of God of superabundance. He has
all the resource at His call and beckon.
In Mark 8:1-9 another
large crowd who had been with Jesus for three days gathered. Only seven loaves
of bread and a few fish were available. Jesus collected the loaves and gave
thanks, he broke them and gave them to His disciples to serve the four thousand
people. They all ate and were satisfied after which His disciples picked up
seven basketful of broken pieces as the left-over. Only the number of men was recorded.
If there were more than that number, everybody would have eaten to satisfaction.
Blessing and Multiplication of oil
2nd Kings 4:1-7 reports the story of the widow of
the son of a prophet whose two sons were to be taken away as slaves by her
husband’s creditors. The widow cried to prophet Elisha for help as she had
nothing except a little oil. Elisha asked her to go and borrow many empty jars
from neighbours and she did. Prophet Elisha said in verse 4 “Then go inside and
shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars and as each
is filled, put it to one side.” she kept pouring until all the available jars
were full. She went and told the man of God and he said “Go sell the oil and
pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
Brethren, God’s
provision is unlimited. If the woman had more jars, she would have had more oil.
The oil stopped pouring only when the widow ran out of containers.
The widow of
Zarephath’s handful of flour and little oil stretched 1st Kings 17:7-21
The widow of Zarephath was to supply Elijah with food when
there was no rain in the land as God had directed Elijah to her. But when
Elijah got to her and requested for water and a piece of bread to eat. The
woman replied in v12; “As surely as the Lord your God lives, I don’t have any
bread, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am
gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that
we may eat it and die.” Elijah insisted she must make a small cake of bread for
him first from the little she had and then make something for herself and son.
Elijah said to her in v4; “For this is what the Lord the God of Israel says;
“The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until
the day the Lord gives rain on the land.” The woman obeyed Elijah’s instruction
and hence there was food everyday for Elijah, the woman and her family. In
evidence of v16 which says; “For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug
of oil did not run dry.” The handful of flour and a little oil meant for the
last meal was stretched and lasted for years until the day Lord gave rain.
Provision of Manna and Quail
When the Israelites were in the desert and about to starve
and grumbled. The Lord said to Moses in Ex 16:12; “I have heard the grumbling
of the Israelites. Tell them at twilight you will eat meat in the morning, you
will be filled with bread; then you will know that I am the Lord your God.” God
sent manna and Quail to them and daily, each gathered as much as needed. For forty years the Israelites ate manna and
until they reached the border of Canaan. They never ran out of manna. This
manna appeared on the ground each day as thin flakes like frost and it satisfied
their physical need. God also provided water for them from the rock when they
were in the desert. For as long as they
needed God supplied.
What are your needs?
Do not limit God. The scripture says in Phil 4:19; “But my God shall supply all
your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” He is a God of
superabundance. All your physical and spiritual needs will be met by Him.
PRAYER
Father in heaven your word says you shall supply
all my needs. You are God of superabundance and all I need in life both
physically and spiritually are with you. I do know that you have deposited in
me some resources, even though I might not realise it. Father, open up my
understanding and knowledge to appreciate it, and release your power of
blessing and multiplication on it to your honour and glory in Jesus name. I
will not lack in Jesus name I pray. Ame
